Whitney loves her long hair. But the tangles, oh the tangles. That girl is tough as nails, but when it comes to tangles...not a fun time. We've told her for a couple years that if she cut it there would be less tangles, less hurting, less tears, less screaming, less drama...but, she never wanted to do it. The other morning we were discussing tangles, why God made them, etc. (the best thinking always occurs in the bathroom), and I told her about how she could get it cut and there was a place called Locks of Love that she could donate her hair to for wigs for little kids that are sick. Her little mind was blown away that she could do something like this. Now, Whitney is a people pleaser, so we try to always be on guard that the choices she makes and things she says isn't to make mommy or daddy happy, or the teacher happy, whoever. So, we made it clear to her (as clear as you can to a 7 year old) that she needed to think about and pray about her choice and that if she chose to do it, it needed to be for the right reasons. Fast forward a couple of days. She came home from school saying that she had talked with God in the tube slide at recess (love how He meets us wherever we are), and that she thought He wanted her to do it! Once she made the choice, she had her mind made up, there was such clarity for her. There was no wavering on the days leading up to it and none even minutes before. Proud of her and her 7 year old sacrifice. And her heart for helping others. It's showing more and more every day.
